FROM SCRATCH, Beginning Kiln Casting & Pate de Verre
WITH JOANNA MANOUSIS, BAY AREA, MARCH 3-8, 2018
This class will introduce a combination of casting and pâte de verre techniques in order to translate the surface quality and form of ready-made and hand-sculpted objects into transparent and opalescent glass. Students will learn from the ground up how to work with polyurethane rubber to create simple open-face mother molds, as well as clay sculpting, wax assemblage, and refractory moldmaking. Firing, programming, annealing, and coldworking will be covered, giving students a comprehensive overview of all facets of the glass-making process. This is a class for beginners.
